Digital Media: Hybrid Final

For this assignment we had to combine some form of traditional media with digital media.

For my final I chose to stick with my idea of using flowers and the human figure. I wanted everything to be super bright and colorful.

I started out by creating a digital image using Adobe Illustrator. My image consisted of solid flower shapes and an outline of a female bust. After I had the digital image the way I wanted it I printed it out. Then, I colored my image using colored pencils and markers. Then I went in and added paper elements to the flowers and drew on top of them to give them a more illustrated look. After I had the flowers finished I drew in shapes of color behind them. Once I had that done I decided to add more flowers that I created on separate piece of paper and then glued onto the background of my image. Once I had that done I drew some partial flowers on a separate piece of paper and cut them out. Then I glued them onto the centers of some of the flowers and left the edges unglued and pulled them up to give a 3D element.

Digital Media: Human Movement Proposal

I really want to take a different approach from the other videos I’ve seen for this project. I want to do something fun and quite possibly silly. I thought it would be cool to film something with my nieces and nephews. I’m thinking of the title “Through the Eyes of a Child”. I want to film everything as if I were a child going through daily child-like activities. I might throw in some stop animation too. I am also considering treating the footage as a silent film with playful music playing throughout the video.

Digital Media: Self-Portrait Proposal

For this assignment we have to create a collaged self-portrait image that represents who we are as a person using Photoshop techniques learned in Digital Media.  I chose the images above as a source of inspiration for my own self-portrait assignment.  I like how the artists combined realistic imagery with “cartooned” imagery.  I would like to have those same effects in my self-portrait.

I have always been obsessed with cartoons; mainly Disney and anime.  I am often referred to as “a little kid” because of this obsession.  For my self-portrait piece I would like to use an image of myself that I will add filters too to make it look “cartoony”.  I want to Photoshop cartoon and hand drawn elements of my favorite things onto the image background.  I would also like to incorporate images of my favorite cartoon characters onto the clothing I would be wearing in the photograph.

Nick Cave

I found the Nick Cave interview to be very inspiring. I had never heard about Nick and the work that he does. After seeing his show in the gallery I became very intrigued. I wondered how he came up with all of the “out of the box” ideas. At the interview I enjoyed being hearing about his thought process behind his sound suits. I think it’s amazing how he has brought so many different artistic mediums together to make cohesive works of art. In his work he brings together music, art and dance. I’ve always been attracted to artists that have a different style. I love how Nick creates his work. The way he creates everything in an unscripted way is truly inspiring.

IMAG2126

For my method of chance I used bouncy balls and acrylic paint. I dunked the bouncy balls in the paint and bounced and rolled them across the paper.

For my second step I looked at my first step to find some interesting marks. I decided to use a series of paint splats that made an interesting form. Then I used black acrylic paint to create a version of that same paint splatter on a larger scale.

For my final step I decided to make a 3D version of the paint splatters. To create my sculpture I used an old black stuffed horse, metal fly swatter handles and women’s black stockings. I cut apart the stuffed horse and put a 5lb weight in the bottom so it could stand on its own. Then I reassembled the horse to look like the paint splatters. And I covered the metal fly swatter handles with the women’s stockings that I used to connect the pieces of the horse.

Site Specific Public Art Proposal

IMAG2159

In this space I would create an organic shape that utilizes the shape of the spiral staircase.

IMAG2154

In this space I would create a sculpture that stretches from the bottom of the staircase to the floor at the corner of the wall.

IMAG2153

In this corner I would build a sculpture that cascades from the ceiling down to the floor like a waterfall.

IMAG2150

In this corner space I would create a sculpture that would stretch out to both walls and come down to the ground.

IMAG2149

In this space I would create a large sculpture that  the viewer could interact with. Possibly a dome or bridge shaped sculpture that could be walked under and around.

IMAG2144

In this space I would create a sculpture that would fill the large archway and come down the stairs.

IMAG2140

In this space I would create a large sculpture that would stem from the ground and reach towards the sky.

IMAG2138

In this space I would create a large sculpture that would have openings all around it that the viewer could walk through.

IMAG2135

In this space I would create a sculpture that would spiral across the top of the walkway.

IMAG2131

In this space I would create a sculpture that would mimic the motion of a serpent.

Step 1: Chance

For my project I chose to use bouncy balls as paint brushes. I rolled and bounced the bouncy balls across the paper to create lines and paint splatters. For step two I’m going to recreate some of the paint splatters.

Cardboard Replica of Found Object

This project had its challenges, but I think that the final product turned out alright. My object was difficult to measure because of its shape and the strings that were in the way. I measured what I could and then I just guessed for the rest of it. Some parts of it are hollow and some are solid cardboard layers. Overall I had a lot of fun with this and I think I managed to recreate my object pretty well using cardboard.
